Ballute inflation in supersonic flow (Mach=1.5)
The program MONSTR-2.2 has built-in aerodynamic
code (semiempirical, close to modified Newtonian impact theory, but applicable
beginning from Mach>1.2) to define pressure distribution around supersonic
decelerators when the forebody wake influence is not essential. It provides
very fast computing even utilizing home PC. The inflation process shown
below took at about 20min. In case of low subsonic speed the aerodynamic
performances can be computed ex. by DVM-2 code for
axisymmetric ballutes and balloons.
